Build Your Own Snooker Room 1
Snooker Room – Dream on Son!
“That shed looks a little lonely and the space to the left is a waste, it just has no business being there and it’s upsetting the garden’s natural symmetry. That poor dog’s Karma is all over the place, I must be able to do something to help? I know, that garden needs a snooker room! That should reset life’s delicate balance…..
Now. How am I gonna sell this to my other half?”
Step 1 – Create a Mess
“Well its like this love, the shed had been attacked by North American Wood Beetles and to save it spreading to the fences I’ve had to get out there when you were on the pampering weekend (a surprise gift from her loving husband) and had to remove that shed; I’m absolutely gutted as I’d just finished the garden for you. As you can see I’ve had to dig out the nests and I went round in circles for a while as they’re real difficult to find.”
Will They Reach The House?
“God love I’d never thought of that, we’d be in real trouble then. I’ll have to read up on this a bit sharpish, don’t worry, have I ever let you down? Well….. the council man says we need to build a pest barrier. Apparently, you need to surround the original nesting sites with a solid structure to ensure they can’t get out as they don’t burrow downwards; he says it’s bad but should contain the problem if we get onto it pronto!”
What Next!!
“Oh you won’t believe this. I’ve just had a call from the environmental agency saying that the North American Wood Beetle can be a real problem for women so he doesn’t want you anywhere near that end of the garden until they have had a meeting and decided on the best course of action, we don’t want this to get out of hand do we?
What they want us to do is build four raised corners so they can move from one to the other and observe them with special infra-red photographic equipment. I’ve had a right go at them and luckily convinced them that we can’t afford any more money as this is getting silly and I’ve gotta take my wife on holiday soon.
The cheek of these people eh!”
Nasty Accident
“What’s that? The guy on the phone said one of them clumsy environmental agency guys has fallen off one of the corner’s we built and really hurt himself.
The local Health and Safety Officer has told us we now have to put some brick supports in to make sure they are safe when they are on lookout duties; if we don’t we could get fined and there goes that holiday.
I’ve tried to get some guys from the local snooker club to help this weekend but only managed to get 27 of them when I told them what had happened.
You just can’t get anyone to help today unless there’s something in it for them!”
They Didn’t Listen…
“I only popped out for a couple of hours to get you some flowers and they’ve all gone mad. I told them to just put some extra supports on for the four corners and they’ve obviously got confused.
They can’t have all paid attention as they’ve left some nasty gaps so I’m gonna have to fill them in myself.”
God, if you wanna a job doing……..”
That’s a Snooker Room isn’t it!
Well obviously our better half’s have generally got a sounder grip on what we’re after before we even think of it so I guess you’re gonna want a first class story for why you need a snooker table (and this isn’t it!). If you ever get to this point and you haven’t let the cat out of the bag then I guess you will have just built a kid’s playroom or a nice summer house or even a gym, you gotta be on top of this so Focus! Focus! Focus!
Getta Grip
Right, back to the real world. This a single skin structure with supporting pillars at the rear. Three bricks to the damp course and a flat roof to keep the structure height as low as possible. If you are having an exposed wooden ceiling then ensure you seal those knots as you don’t want any residue dripping on your cloth and ruining all your hard work. Some decent double glazing in this project will help with those winter nights.
Hey Presto….A snooker Room!
And there you have it, one great big pest prison as most wives would put it. If you have got this far then you have done well.
Most people dream of a room like this at the end of the garden and few ever get round to it so this is now gonna pay dividends. The wooden exterior looks superb and of course it’s a great source of food for any passing beetles…….yeah right!
We will be showing a few snooker rooms built at homes so keep an eye out as it gives us all hope that we may have our own one day…….here’s hoping!
